Food on Iceland
The Icelanders are in general a very healthy population. That probably has something to do with what they eat.
There are many International companies on Iceland, serving well know food types from around the world.
But the national food on Iceland have many specialties that you probably wont find in so many other countries.
Basically the main ingredients in a dish on Iceland are fish, lamb, or horsemeat. There are so much food tourists should try when on Iceland, but the fish and lamb seems like the most obvious choices.
The fresh fish that comes from one of the cleanest waters in the world is strongly recommended, fish like cod, salmon, or herring.
For the more daring travelers, the putrefied shark called hákarl is certainly a famous delicacy. Or if you like lamb, it is recommended to try “hangikjöt” which is smoked lamb. Or the most daring of them all “svið”, that is singed sheep's head. Most of these specialties first came in a time were there was limited resources. But they have become popular again and is now eaten again all over Iceland.
If your a tourist on Iceland you should try something out, since you probably will remember it for a lifetime.
